Reese Medley

Reese Medley, known as “The Portsmouth Landlord,” is a Portsmouth, Virginia rapper whose music has always carried a level of maturity and introspection beyond his years. With gritty, poetic bars grounded in real-life observation, ambition, struggle, loyalty, and the realities of the streets, Reese developed a style that earned comparisons to artists such as Scarface, Beanie Sigel, and Rick Ross—MCs known for turning street narratives into something deeper than surface-level storytelling.

His roots in Portsmouth hip-hop stretch back to the early 2000s, when he began rapping as a member of the Portsmouth-based group NATO. He would eventually become one of the signature members of BangaNation, emerging as one of the collective’s most recognizable voices during its rise throughout the region.

In 2007, Reese joined Erick Hurt (Young Hurt) and Y.O.G.I. (Young Fu) for Money and Murda, an early project from what would become one of BangaNation’s defining musical eras. He later appeared prominently on The BangaNation Compilation in 2011 as the movement continued expanding its catalog and regional presence.

Reese is perhaps best known, however, for his FluPrint mixtape series. The series became a showcase for the qualities that have defined him throughout his career: commanding delivery, vivid street imagery, introspection, and the ability to make hard-earned perspective feel just as important as the punchline.

From his beginnings with NATO to becoming The Portsmouth Landlord and one of BangaNation’s signature artists, Reese Medley’s music represents a veteran Portsmouth perspective built over more than two decades. His catalog doesn’t simply document where he’s been—it captures the mindset, lessons, and evolution of an artist who seemed to understand the weight of his experiences long before his age suggested he should.
